Description

Castle Schaesberg is hidden in the hilly countryside of Landgraaf, surrounded by greenery and trees.
We offer you the unique opportunity to redevelop this exceptional site of over 5.5 hectares into a vibrant, accessible heritage destination where history and contemporary use come together.

In the middle of a hilly stream valley among the trees in South Limburg’s Landgraaf stand the ruins of Castle Schaesberg, a 16th-century castle, along with the outlines of the associated 17th-century farm complex.
The Renaissance castle, once one of the most important noble residences in South Limburg, experienced its heyday in the 17th and 18th centuries. It subsequently fell into decline, and since 2012 the castle has been gradually rebuilt using traditional crafts.

The Castle Schaesberg estate is being offered for sale. In addition to the castle ruins, the site includes a visitor centre (with canteen and meeting facilities).
The park located behind it, featuring the artisanal blacksmith’s workshop, the woodworking shop, and other buildings, will also be transferred to a new owner.
There are also several animals present on the site. The municipality is happy to make further arrangements with the new owner regarding the possible transfer and care of these animals.

The distinctive gatehouse is currently being completely rebuilt and will remain the property of the municipality; this also applies to a transformer building and the nearby facilities building located outside the site.
The municipality wishes to see the location further developed into a lively and accessible place that preserves and enhances the cultural-historical value and uniqueness of this site.
